After a twenty-nine year absence from the screen, the characters of Bill S. Preston Esq. and Ted Theodore Logan will be making their triumphant return in 2020's BILL & TED FACE THE MUSIC. We're still eight months out from the film's theatrical release, but Entertainment Weekly has provided BILL & TED fans with a special holiday treat: a batch of official images!

A lot of spy pics leaked from the set of FACE THE MUSIC while it was filming, but these are the first images Orion Pictures and United Artists really want you to see. In the images featured above and below, we see Alex Winter and Keanu Reeves back in the roles of Bill and Ted, along with Samara Weaving as Bill's daughter Thea, Brigette Lundy-Paine as Ted's daughter Billie, William Sadler as Death / the Grim Reaper, and Scott "Kid Cudi" Mescudi as… Kid Cudi.

Directed by Dean Parisot from a screenplay by franchise writers Chris Matheson and Ed Solomon, BILL & TED FACE THE MUSIC has the following synopsis:

When we last met Bill and Ted they were time-traveling teenagers trying to pass history class and win the battle of the bands. Once prophesized to save the universe with their rock and roll, middle age and the responsibilities of family have caught up with these two best friends who have not yet fulfilled their destiny. They’ve written thousands of tunes, but they have yet to write a good one, much less the greatest song ever written. With the fabric of time and space tearing around them, a visitor from the future warns our heroes that only their song can save life as we know it. Out of luck and fresh out of inspiration, Bill and Ted set out on a time travel adventure to seek the song that will set their world right and bring harmony in the universe as we know it. Together with the aid of their daughters, a new crop of historical figures, and some sympathetic music legends, Bill and Ted find much, much more than just a song.

Matheson explained to EW that Bill and Ted

were told when they were teenagers that they were going to save reality, and they’ve been working on it the whole time. Now an emissary from the future comes and says, ‘You’ve got to do it right now. We’ve got literally 80 minutes or all of reality will come to an end.’"

Matheson also said that Billie and Thea get mixed up in the new adventure because they "really love their dads’ music and want to help them." As for the presence of Kid Cudi, Parisot said, "He gets mysteriously thrown around through various times, because all time and space is coming unglued."

The film's cast also includes Hal Landon Jr., Amy Stoch, Jayma Mays, Erinn Hayes, Anthony Carrigan, Holland Taylor, Kristen Schaal, Jillian Bell, and Beck Bennett.

Audiences were first introduced to Bill and Ted in 1989's BILL & TED'S EXCELLENT ADVENTURE. The characters returned two years later in BILL & TED'S BOGUS JOURNEY. BILL & TED FACE THE MUSIC is set to reach theatres on August 21, 2020.
