Relic, starring Emily Mortimer, gets teaser trailer and July release date

Last Updated on August 5, 2021

Natalie Erika James' feature directorial debut RELIC had its world premiere at the Sundance Film Festival back in January, and now IFC Midnight is preparing to release the film to a wider audience: RELIC is getting a theatrical and VOD/Digital release on July 10th.

Along with the date announcement comes a trailer, which can be seen above.

James wrote the screenplay with Christian White. The story was inspired by James' own experience when her grandmother was diagnosed with Alzheimer's and is said to be a "fresh and terrifying twist on the notorious haunted house tale". The synopsis:

When elderly mother Edna inexplicably vanishes, her daughter Kay and granddaughter Sam rush to their family's decaying country home, finding clues of her increasing dementia scattered around the house in her absence. After Edna returns just as mysteriously as she disappeared, Kay's concern that her mother seems unwilling or unable to say where she's been clashes with Sam's unabashed enthusiasm to have her grandma back. As Edna's behavior turns increasingly volatile, both begin to sense that an insidious presence in the house might be taking control of her. All three generations of women are brought together through trauma and a powerful sense of strength and loyalty to face the ultimate fear together.

Emily Mortimer, Bella Heathcote, and Robyn Nevin star.

Jake Gyllenhaal produced the film with Anna McLeish, Sarah Shaw, and Riva Marker. Joe and Anthony Russo, the directing duo behind AVENGERS: ENDGAME, served as executive producers with Mike Larocca, Todd Makurath, Wang Zhongjun, Wang Zhonglei, and Hu Junyi.

I have been very curious about this movie ever since I first heard about it going to Sundance, so I'm glad to hear that IFC Midnight will be putting it out into the world soon.
