To me, while RESIDENT EVIL was a pretty kickass ride (though Paul Anderson still owes me that uncut DVD release), RESIDENT EVIL: APOCALYPSE took a goofy turn which left me wondering if the next film would be better or worse. Well, depending on your opinions, you should get a better picture of it, now that a character from APOCALYPSE has confirmed his return.
Actor-comedian Mike Epps (who played L.J. the cabbie in APOCALYPSE) confirmed while on tour in promotion of his new film ROLL BOUNCE, that his characters would be returning in the next RE movie, tentatively titled RESIDENT EVIL: AFTERLIFE. AFTERLIFE will be set in a post-apocalyptic world overrun with zombies. The film will play in the Nevada desert with the Aussie outback standing in for the American wasteland. At the end of the film, the action will shift to Japan, setting up the fourth installment.
“Yep, we’re shooting [AFTERLIFE] in March and this time, they are going to let me be hard,” said Epps. “I asked [director Paul Anderson], ‘Something’s strange because why did you let me live? Black people die in these movies’ and he was like, ‘Well Mike, I kinda like you.’ So then I asked him, ‘Are you setting me up to die because if there’s a fourth movie, I’m as good as dead.” When asked if he was going to live, Epps responded, “I don’t know this time. But I tell you what. If I gotta die in this one, I’m not doing it. I’m not dying in any of my movies.”
