The new episode of the Awfully Good Horror Movies video series looks back at the 1999 Full Moon release Retro Puppet Master

It’s time for a new episode of the Awfully Good Horror Movies video series, and in this one we’re looking back at we’re looking back at a 1999 entry in Full Moon’s long-running Puppet Master franchise, Retro Puppet Master (watch it HERE)! To find out why we think watching Retro Puppet Master provides an awfully good time, check out the video embedded above.

Retro Puppet Master was the seventh Puppet Master movie to be released, following Puppet Master, Puppet Master II, Puppet Master III: Toulon’s Revenge, Puppet Master 4, Puppet Master 5: The Final Chapter, and Curse of the Puppet Master, but it’s a prequel that’s set decades before any of the other films. This one was directed by David DeCoteau from a script by Benjamin Carr and tells the following story: Andre Toulon is living a peaceful life as a puppeteer in pre-World War I Paris and courting the lovely Ilsa, the Swiss ambassador’s beautiful young daughter. But the strings of fate that guide Toulon’s destiny are about to pull him into an unexpected direction after he encounters the renegade sorcerer Afzel, who has stolen the mysterious secrets of life from the dark god Sutekh. When Sutekh’s sinister servants arrive, and make Ilsa a part of their diabolical plans, it’s up to Toulon and his army of custom made puppets to stop them at any cost!

The film stars Greg Sestero, Brigitta Dau, Jack Donner, Stephen Blackehart, and Guy Rolfe.

Since Retro Puppet Master was released, we’ve also gotten Puppet Master: The Legacy (which is more a clip compilation), the Sci-Fi Channel-produced crossover Puppet Master vs. Demonic Toys, Puppet Master: Axis of Evil, Puppet Master X: Axis Rising, Puppet Master: Axis Termination, Blade: The Iron Cross, Puppet Master: Doktor Death, and the Fangoria-produced reboot Puppet Master: The Littlest Reich (which also got Awfully Good treatment).
