Practical effects are the tops. It’s just a fact of life. They were cool back when Georges Méliès used them, they were still cool back when Ray Harryhausen used them, and they’re just as cool today when Rick Baker uses them. So it’s no small win for Angelina Jolie to have scored Rick Baker to do her makeup design for the title role in Disney’s MALEFICENT.

In his confirmation of the news (“I designed the makeup for Angelina Jolie. At this point, I’m actually finished with that part of it.”) Baker gave no hint as exactly what his design would be, so all we know is that there will be something different going on with Jolie’s face. Though there is some clue to be had in the Jolie’s past affirmation that “the horns are the horns – you can’t deny them. You have to have horns.”

I think we all know the very obvious series of jokes I can go with as to how I feel about her believing that, so I’m just going to slowly walk away now before I succumb to sweet temptation.

You can check out Jolie in all her horned, green glory on March 14th, 2014.
