Ridley Scott says he cut 23 minutes of footage from Alien: Covenant

Last Updated on July 31, 2021

It was just last week that we shared the news Ridley Scott's ALIEN: COVENANT already had a Steelbook available for pre-order. Today, we bring you a bit of news about what may be included on the disc once it hits the Fall.

One of the first things I thought as I walked out of ALIEN: COVENANT was the film seemed like it was much longer at one point. I mean we had seen those two prologues before the film premiered and they were nowhere to be found in the actual movie, so I figured those scenes had to have bits cut out of them as well.

It turns out I was (kinda) right in that director Ridley Scott recently sat down with Collider and talked over the new ALIEN flick, and during the conversation, he was asked if the film had any deleted scenes.

Ridley Scott on ALIEN: COVENANT deleted scenes:

It was 2 hours and 23 minutes, the first cut. I looked at it and was like, 'I've got to get this to 2 hours.'

Now a good bit of that may very well be the two prologues we have already seen, which included the Covenant crew at their "last supper" and a condensed tale of what happened with David and Shaw between PROMETHEUS and ALIEN: COVENANT.

I'm thinking, and hoping, these twenty-three minutes of deleted scenes end up on the Blu-ray and that they focus more on the David and Shaw story. I don't think I need any more scenes with the Covenant crew. I'm good there.

What do you think was cut out of the film? What would you like to have seen elaborated on? Let us know what you hope to see when the film hits Blu-ray this Fall.

Maybe it's twenty-three more minutes of Callie Hernandez.
