Sad news all; effects genius and legend STAN WINSTON
passed on today after a seven years fight with a condition named multiple
myeloma (a form of cancer). Mr. Winston was responsible for some of the most
badass creatures our beloved genre has to offer: the Terminator, the Predator,
Edward Scissorhands, the Tyrannosaurus Rex (Jurassic Park), the Monster Squad
crew, Iron Man, the Alien Queen (I still remember how low my jaw dropped when I
saw her for the first time on the big screen.I was floored!!!!) and the list goes on!
Mr. Winston also directed one heck of an underrated genre flick in the
1988 monster movie
PUMKINHEAD,was nominated for 6 Oscars and won 3 of them (for ALIENS, JURASSIC
PARK and T2). The man was working on T3 before his passing. All of us here at AITH would like to offer our sincere condolences to Mr. Winston’s
friends and family and
would also like to thank Mr. Winston himself for all of the awe inspiring beasties
he blessed us with over the years. Many of them will be remembered by me and I’m
sure many of you forever.
