Way back in October we gave you the upsetting news that John Hillcoat’s THE ROAD was being pushed back. At the time we were assuming a couple months… boy were we wrong.
It seems the release date is being pushed back a whole year after the original date! THE ROAD was originallty set for November 26, 2008 but got pushed back shortly before. Now it’s looking to hit theaters on October 16, 2009! That’s an entire year! Damn.
Although when you think about the move it makes sense. The Weinsteins and company are looking at THE ROAD to be a major Oscar contender, so releasing it in the Fall is just a smart move. The movie is obviously ready to roll but they’re going to go ahead and sit on it until the Fall to battle some other Oscar contenders. That works.
The flick is based off the Cormac McCarthy novel and comes from director John Hillcoat with Joe Penhall penning the script. It stars Viggo Mortensen, Charlize Theron (below), Guy Pearce and Robert Duvall. So we’re looking to travel down THE ROAD come October 16th. Keep it here for updates as we hear them.
