Robert Eggers’ The Northman: Star calls movie “a masterpiece”

Robert Eggers' Viking revenge film The Northman is now in post-production, and cast member Ralph Ineson, who also had a major role in Eggers' The Witch (watch it HERE), recently hyped it up in a major way while speaking with NME.

Scripted by Eggers and Icelandic poetic / novelist Sjón, The Northman has only been described as "a Viking revenge saga set in Iceland at the turn of the 10th century."

Ineson did a much better job of describing the film, saying it's "an enormous movie."

I saw a four-minute montage of some of the stuff they'd already shot and I was really blown away. The marriage of Rob Eggers' imagination and Viking folklore… Jesus, man."

Ineson is joined in the cast by Nicole Kidman, Anya Taylor-Joy, Willem Dafoe, Björk, and Alexander Skarsgård – and he had some great things to say about Skarsgård in particular.

Alexander Skarsgård looks like an absolute beast. [There’s] a scene where he beats this guy in a battle; bends down and rips his throat out with his teeth, screams to the gods and he's got his shirt off – and you think: 'My god that's not a bodybuilder doing a scene, that’s like a proper serious actor!' He's made himself look like some kind of monster for the part, the dedication's incredible."

So how does Ineson feel The Northman will turn out when Eggers is ready to share it with the world?

I think it will be a bit of a masterpiece, to be honest."

Well, my interest in The Northman has gotten a substantial boost. They don't need to hire a marketing team for this movie, I think Ineson can handle the job by himself.
