Robert Eggers Viking thriller The Northman gets a slight delay

The Northman, Robert Eggers, Robert Eggers Viking thriller, release date

Don’t sharpen your hatchet and gather your furs just yet because it sounds like the Robert Eggers Viking thriller The Northman is getting delayed. According to Bloody Disgusting, The Northman is setting sail from April 8, 2022, to its new date on April 22, 2022.

The Northman comes after Eggers made audiences feel dirty with films like The VVitch and The Lighthouse. The plot is based on the Scandanavian legend that inspired Hamlet. The film stars Alexander Skarsgård as a Viking prince. His father, played by Ethan Hawke, is murdered by Claes Bang’s usurper to the throne, leading to exile for the prince and estrangement from his queen mother, played by Nicole Kidman. The prince then goes on a bloody rampage, with Anya Taylor-Joy playing his love interest. The Robert Eggers Viking thriller also stars Willem Dafoe, and my favorite musical artist of all time, Björk.

Eggers co-wrote the screenplay with Icelandic poet and novelist Sjón. Lars Knudsen, Mark Huffman, and New Regency produce.

After loving David Lowrey’s The Green Knight, I am more than down for another epic spinning out of a timeless piece of literature.

Ralph Ineson, who also starred in Robert Eggers’ The VVitch, teased to NME in March that he’s already seen a little of what they’ve shot and was blown away. “It’s an enormous movie,” Ineson said. “I saw a four-minute montage of some of the stuff they’d already shot and I was really blown away. The marriage of Rob Eggers’ imagination and Viking folklore… Jesus, man.” Ineson also had plenty of praise for Alexander Skarsgård, who apparently will look like an absolute beast in the film. “[There’s] a scene where he beats this guy in a battle; bends down and rips his throat out with his teeth, screams to the gods and he’s got his shirt off – and you think: ‘My god that’s not a bodybuilder doing a scene, that’s like a proper serious actor!” Ineson exclaimed. “He’s made himself look like some kind of monster for the part, the dedication’s incredible. I think it will be a bit of a masterpiece, to be honest.” Holy shit! This movie sounds like it’s going to be insane. Sign me up and let’s go!
