Dead by Dawn

The Walking Dead creator Robert Kirkman company Skybound Entertainment has teamed with Love Productions to create a new television series called Dead by Dawn, which is described as being the first "horror nature" show ever made.

Set to premiere on Nat Geo Wild later this month, Dead by Dawn will

deliver captivating and excellent visuals and storytelling while audaciously leaning into classic horror folly and memorable, distinctive soundtracks alongside suspenseful nature stories that begin just before sunset and end just after sunrise. Each episode features wildlife in a different country, from Costa Rica to Indonesia to the swamps of the USA. Once the sun goes down, creatures of the night battle for survival. It’s a countdown until dawn, and only the strongest and luckiest will live to see the sunrise. Warning: Be prepared to scream!"

Each episode is said to be inspired by classic films of the horror genre. The first two episodes are titled THE HILLS HAVE EYES and NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD.

Janet Han Vissering, SVP development and Production at Nat Geo Wild, had this to say about the show:

Dead by Dawn is a great example of how Nat Geo Wild continues to find new ways to showcase the real, incredible drama of the natural world. Nature can often be more frightening than fiction, and I think viewers will find that this genre mashup of horror with natural history provides a refreshing and entertaining new look at the realities of life in the animal kingdom."

Kirkman is executive producing the show alongside Bryan Furst, Sean Furst, David Alpert, Richard McKerrow, Kevin Bartel, Devon Massyn, and Ashley Hoppin.

The first season of Dead by Dawn will consist of six episodes. The series is set to premiere on Nat Geo Wild on Sunday, January 13th, at 9pm Eastern. Surprisingly, that will put the last couple episodes up against episodes of The Walking Dead, which returns to AMC on Sunday, February 10th, at 9pm Eastern.
