Robert Pattinson on the inspiration for his Batman voice

Robert Pattinson, The Batman

Matt Reeves' THE BATMAN is coming together quite nicely, with Robert Pattinson (THE LIGHTHOUSE) set to play the Dark Knight, Zoe Kravitz (Big Little Lies) as Catwoman, Paul Dano (SWISS ARMY MAN) as The Riddler, and Jeffrey Wright (NO TIME TO DIE) in talks to play Commissioner Gordon. Production hasn't yet begun on the flick, but Pattinson has said that he's in the early stages of bulking up as well as experimenting with a very important part of the character: his voice.

While speaking with Access Hollywood, the actor revealed that Willem Dafoe's voice in THE LIGHTHOUSE has served as quite the inspiration for his Batman voice.

Willem's voice in this is quite inspiring for it to be honest. It is pretty similar to the voice I'm gonna do… I think Batman has a sort of pirate-y kind of voice, I think that would really suit him.

While I very much doubt that Batman is suddenly going to sound like a grizzled old-timey lighthouse keeper, there is something of a Batman quality to Willem Dafoe's voice, so you can definitely see where that seed might inspire Robert Pattinson to go.

We still don't know all that much about THE BATMAN at this stage, but Matt Reeves has teased that it will finally do justice to Batman's reputation of the World's Greatest Detective.

It’s very much a point of view-driven, noir Batman tale. It’s told very squarely on his shoulders, and I hope it’s going to be a story that will be thrilling but also emotional. It’s more Batman in his detective mode than we’ve seen in the films. The comics have a history of that. He’s supposed to be the world’s greatest detective, and that’s not necessarily been a part of what the movies have been. I’d love this to be one where when we go on that journey of tracking down the criminals and trying to solve a crime, it’s going to allow his character to have an arc so that he can go through a transformation.

THE BATMAN will hit theaters on June 25, 2021.
