One director it’s impossible not to like is one David Cronenberg. I can almost gurantee there’s at least one Cronenberg flick out there that you dig. Personally my favortie Cronenberg flick is without a doubt EXISTENZ. Lately though the talented filmmaker has traded in his tapped out sci-fi feel for more of a gritty, drama-esque way of doing things. But alas it seems Mr. Cronenberg is ready to return to the world of sci-fi.
It seems he will be doing so without Colin Farrell though. Word today from Deadline New York has Colin Farrell dropping out of Cronenberg’s COSMOPOLIS due to scheduling conflicts. Who’s taking his place? Why Robert Pattinson of course! The obvious choice I’d say. But seriously… Who in their right mind, in a choice between Pattinson (above) and Farrell, chooses Pattinson? Aside from little teenage girls I mean… Honestly?? Who knows though… If anyone can pull something worth checking out from Pattinson I’d say it’s Cronenberg.
COSMOPOLIS centers on Eric Packer (Pattinson). A financial wunderkind, Packer risks his entire fortune to bet against the yen on a tumultuous day. His deed puts him in the crosshairs for assassination in a drama that is a study of capitalism in a slightly futuristic metropolis. Most of the scenes in the book take place in the limousine that transports Packer from place to place.
Both Marion Cotillard and Paul Giamatti are supposedly in the film as well, though that has yet to be confirmed. So we’ve got Cronenberg, Cotillard (below), Giamatti… and Pattinson. One just doesn’t seem to fit, know what I mean? Once THE TWILIGHT SAGA wraps up Pattinson will jump ship to COSMOPOLIS and things will start rolling. Once that time comes we’ll be sure to keep you updated on this little diddy as news on the flick heads our way!
