Roberto Orci says first draft of Star Trek 3 script is finished

Roberto Orci is currently attached to several different projects, but in my opinion his biggest upcoming movie is definitely STAR TREK 3. Orci will be making his directorial debut with the next STAR TREK flick, and some are worried about him taking over for J.J. Abrams. We know STAR TREK 3 will likely be set in deep space, and now we also know the first draft of the script has been completed.

Roberto Orci announced the news recently on TrekMovie's comments section, and the "p & m" Orci is referring to are his STAR TREK 3 co-writers J.D. Payne and Patrick McKay.

boborci: p & m & I wrote, "fade out" yesterday on first draft. things are moving…First draft is done.

Obviously Roberto Orci and company still have a ways to go before they start filming, but at least the first draft of the script is done. It also isn't expected to hit theaters for a couple of years, so they do have plenty of time to further work on the script for the next movie.

I'm not thrilled about Roberto Orci directing STAR TREK 3, but I'm not completely against it either. I'm taking a wait-and-see approach with the next movie, and hopefully Orci won't disappoint with his first film as a director.

STAR TREK 3 will likely be released sometime in 2016.
