Slash is a famed guitarist best known for his work with Guns n’ Roses and Velvet Revolver, but back in October, we told you about his aspirations for the horror genre. Now more details have surfaced.
The musician he will choose scripts to produce under his own label, Slasher Films, to be funded by Scout Productions (SESSION 9, TRANSSIBERIAN). In a recent interview with Artist Direct, he elaborated on the endeavor:
“We’re going to be putting out two, maybe three movies per year. They’ll be really high quality, very character-driven, and insanely scary horror movies. They’re not going to be scary in the sense that you’re waiting for a monster to come out and cut off someone’s arm. They’re going to be psychologically scary and intense. They’ll hearken back to those great movies of the ’60s and ’70s and even way before that. I think when A NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET came out was the last stretch of really great horror movies. Then everything sort of went gore.”
He also revealed that after the original announcement, other companies became interested: “We put out a press release, and all of the studios and production companies started coming to us. It’s been a really positive thing so far.”
Sounds pretty promising. The first foray is called NOTHING TO FEAR. Written by Jonathan W.C. Mills, the movie follows a young family as it tries to reinvent itself by moving to a small town in rural Kansas. The family is tormented by an ancient demon with an insatiable blood lust.
It sounds like his heart is in the right place. Let’s hope the final products reflect that passion. What do you think?
