Rodney Rothman to script 21 Jump Street spinoff with an eye to direct

21 Jump Street Rodney Rothman

I never would have imagined that we'd ever be talking about a 21 JUMP STREET movie franchise, but here we are. Starring Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum, the first film wound up being a surprisingly decent comedy flick and was followed by 22 JUMP STREET, the rare sequel which was just as good as the first and took delight in skewering sequels and remakes in general. Sony Pictures wasn't about to let such a successful franchise rest and soon put two separate 21 JUMP STREET films into development, one of which will be a female-led spinoff.

Deadline has reported that Rodney Rothman has been tapped by Sony to pen the script for the 21 JUMP STREET spinoff with an eye to direct the picture. When the project was first announced it had Lucia Aniello and Paul W. Downs of Broad City tackling the script with Lizzie and Wendy Molyneux of Bob's Burgers working on a parallel draft. We've been seeing more parallel script developments lately, but it seems that Rothman will be taking a fresh crack at it. Rothman is no stranger to the 21 JUMP STREET universe as he co-wrote 22 JUMP STREET. This isn't the only 21 JUMP STREET project on Sony's plate as they've still attempting to develop their 21 JUMP STREET/MEN IN BLACK crossover which Jonah Hill doesn't seem to have a lot of faith in.

Which pair of actresses would you like to see take the lead in the 21 JUMP STREET spinoff?
