Alita: Battle Angel Rosa Salazar Robert Rodriguez

The live action adaptation of the ALITA: BATTLE ANGEL manga was supposed to be in theatres right now; its had been scheduled for release on July 20th. But since the film got pushed back to a December 21 release date, right now we only have a new trailer to watch instead of the full film.

Directed by Robert Rodriguez from a script he worked on with Laeta Kalogridis and producer James Cameron, ALITA tells the story of

a female cyborg that is discovered in a scrap yard by a scientist. With no memory of her previous life except her deadly martial-arts training, the woman becomes a bounty hunter, tracking down criminals.

Rosa Salazar stars as the cyborg Alita, with Christoph Waltz as Alita's mentor; Mahershala Ali as two different characters, one of whom is Vector, who "runs and fixes matches in a gladiator-style combat game called Motorball"; Keean Johnson as Alita's love interest Hugo, who teaches her how to play Motorball; Jennifer Connelly as one of the villains; Jorge Lendeborg Jr. as a friend to Hugo; Jackie Earle Haley, Ed Skrein, and Eiza González as villainous cyborgs; Leonard Wu as another cyborg; Lana Condor as an orphaned photographer; Marko Zaror as Motorball player Ajakutty; and Michelle Rodriguez as the cyborg Gelda, who is a mother figure to Alita in the manga.

I'm not familiar with the manga, but this film looks pretty cool to me, even if the cyborgs seem a bit cartoony. I'm looking forward to watching ALITA: BATTLE ANGEL this winter.
