Rosario Dawson joins Netflix’s Daredevil series in a “pivotal” role

Netflix and Marvel have made yet another wise decision and have added Rosario Dawson to the cast of their upcoming DAREDEVIL series. Dawson will join the already cast Charlie Cox and Vincent D’Onofrio who will play Matt Murdock and The Kingpin, respectively. The Hollywood Reporter did not name the role that Dawson would be taking on only that it is “pivotal” to the series. They did share this about her character.

She will play a dedicated young woman whose quest to heal the wounds of Hell’s Kitchen brings blind attorney Matt Murdock unexpectedly crashing into her life, while her own journey forever alters the course of his battle against the injustices of this broken city.

Now, this could be any number of characters, possibly an original one, but I am going to go ahead and call it now that Rosario Dawson is the new Elektra. Rosario Dawson is one of the sexiest actresses working today and she already has the physique and presence to play a superhero. With her vigilante turns in the two SIN CITY films, Dawson would be the perfect strong female actress to portray the sai-wielding comic character.

Drew Goddard, who scripted the DAREDEVIL pilot before departing to develop Sony’s THE SINISTER SIX, came from a strong DAREDEVIL fandom so I wouldn’t put it past him to bring Elektra right from the outset. Steven S. DeKnight is currently running the show for the first season. Netflix and Marvel’s partnership could also mean this cast may make the jump to the big screen at some point and with this cast already strong, I don’t see why not.

DAREDEVIL will premiere on Netflix later this year.
