With all the talk and hoopla about Eli Roth and his new film HOSTEL, one has to wonder what the man’s going to do next. Well, Fango thought the same thing.
In a chat with Fangoria, Roth revealed that yes, he was in contact with the producers of the MASTERS OF HORROR series about contributing to the second series. And while he’d love to do it, he wants to focus his energies on promoting HOSTEL. “I have just spent a year making this movie—we moved so fast on this that I feel as if I haven’t stopped and caught a breath.”
As for returning to the producer role (which is what he did in Tim Sullivan’s 2001 MANIACS), Roth feels that it’s not in the cards for him at the moment. “HOSTEL has reminded me of what I really should be doing. Sure, I can produce—but what do I really want to spend my time doing?” With regards to life after HOSTEL, Roth wants to complete the script he and Richard Kelly (DONNIE DARKO) were working on called THE BOX, which has been hanging over his head for a while.
One more thing. With all the gore and plasma in HOSTEL, how much do you figure was cut? Roth says that the MPAA had him excise 12 frames to get the R rating. Interesting, to say the least.
