Rumor: Could Tom Cruise and Steven Spielberg re-team for Nomad?

Last Updated on March 28, 2023

It’s been a long time since Steven Spielberg and Tom Cruise worked together, with their last collaboration being 2005’s War of the Worlds. But now, following their recent reunion, it looks like Spielberg and Cruise could reteam for a science fiction project tentatively titled Nomad. Now, take this with a massive grain of salt. This news comes via Giant Freakin’ Robot’s “trusted sources,” While it may well be true, even if this is possible, don’t expect it to hit screens anytime soon. Cruise’s dance card is pretty full, with him currently shooting Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part 2. Plus, given his devotion to selling his movies, he’ll take significant time off for global press tours promoting both films. Plus – he’s supposed to be heading to space with Doug Liman and Elon Musk’s Space X movie, so it seems unlikely he’d jump right into another sci-fi tentpole.

That said, the notion of Cruise and Spielberg reteaming is an intriguing one. Years ago, there were unconfirmed reports that the two formerly close collaborators were on the outs. Recently, they had a famous reunion where Spielberg credited Cruise with helping to save movie theaters. Both men are still at the top of their game, and I imagine any project that would team him with Spielberg would jump right to the front of his queue. There has yet to be any news on what Nomad could be about, but consider this. Their first collaboration, Minority Report, was a classic. Their second, War of the Worlds, was a global blockbuster that, while suffering mixed reviews initially, has held up well over the years. If Nomad is actually in the works, bring it on. It would be interesting to see what both men could bring to the table at this point in their long and storied careers.
