Rumors have Justice League delayed until 2021, after the Batman reboot and Man of Steel sequels

It looks like the JUSTICE LEAGUE movie was more wishful thinking than anything. As more and more negative press leaks about the project, Warner Bros. and DC seem to be becoming nervous about the project. First it was a bad script, then Mark Millar‘s negative comments, and now a rumor that the movie may not see the light of day until after 2017 at the earliest.

Batman on Film is citing sources at WB/DC who are concerned that JUSTICE LEAGUE could cause harm to their already established characters in Superman and Batman. MAN OF STEEL is looking like a sure thing for box office success, but they are now buckling under the pressure.

Here’s a quote from the Batman fansite:

“Don’t worry about the Batman [film] franchise…it’s [Warner Bros.’] most valuable [DC Comics-based] asset…I believe that they are now looking at introducing [the rebooted] Batman in a solo film, though that will likely take place later than they initially had planned. They are extremely worried how a [Batman film franchise] would be affected if Justice League bombs…and rightfully so. The fact that what should be the core fanbase of a Justice League film isn’t on board is making them sweat as well.”

I think a JUSTICE LEAGUE movie could work, but they need to be careful and not rush it. Of the core characters they are looking to work with, Green Lantern is the only with a big screen outing aside from Batman or Superman and that movie sucked. Wonder Woman and The Flash would need to gain some traction, even if as minor characters in a MAN OF STEEL sequel or the Batman reboot.

So, just how long do they think Warner Bros will wait for their JUSTICE LEAGUE movie if 2015 doesn’t materialize?

“If Superman is huge, then they’ve bought themselves some time and will have a franchise to hang their hat on for seven, eight years. The need for Batman won’t be as great, and [the reboot] of that franchise can wait until the Superman trilogy is done.”

So, 2021? That doesn’t even seem like a real year. Plus, by then the superhero genre may be tired and on its last legs. I think if DC is going to do something, they have to do it while Marvel is hot and waiting another decade is not going to do them any favors.

Anyone else still holding out hope for JUSTICE LEAGUE to happen within 2 years?
