Run: Sarah Paulson thriller breaks Hulu viewer records for opening weekend

Last Updated on August 2, 2021

Hulu's new thriller RUN, starring Sarah Paulson and Kiera Allen, is literally racing up the charts. According to reports, the Aneesh Chagnty-directed film is Hulu's most-watched feature title ever during its opening weekend. Furthermore, people won't stop talking about it on Twitter, making it the most tweeted about Hulu Original Film to date on the blue-birded social media hellscape.

In RUN, a homeschooled teenager begins to suspect her mother is keeping a dark secret from her.

RUN launched on Hulu on November 20 and within its first three days of release, the nail-biting mother/daughter drama beat not only previously watched Hulu Originals Films, but licensed SVOD film titles as well. Before transforming into a mega-hit for Hulu, NEON’s Sundance darling PALM SPRINGS was awarded the crown for the most successful opening on the platform. News of RUN being a bonafide hit for the app comes shortly after Netflix announced that The Queen's Gambit is the streamer's biggest scripted limited series to date, with over 62 million households tuning in for the series starring Anya Taylor-Joy as fictional Chess legend Elizabeth Harmon.

It's rather remarkable how much streaming has grown in just the past few years. For a time, studios were hesitant to release top-shelf material directly into the homes of subscription-based customers, but now, it would seem as if that fear has been abated, and how. With countless theaters remaining closed during the coronavirus crisis, it could be that studios will look to streamers as the ideal platform to host their latest blockbusters and beyond.
