Ryan Gosling shirtless and Nicolas Winding Refn compares violence to sex in this Only God Forgives featurette

ONLY GOD FORGIVES has given us some fantastic trailers and a few intriguing clips and now we have a brief featurette that focuses on the violence that is central to the plot of the movie. In fact, director Nicolas Winding Refn goes as far as to compare violence and sex, something Ryan Gosling makes a face at to the camera.

But, it is very true. There are primal instincts in human beings that are very similar when it comes to violence and sex. Both are guttural, physical, and intense. This featurette knows it too since it goes from shots of a shirtless Ryan Gosling (for the ladies) to a stunt coordinator showing Gosling the right method for smashing a dude’s head against the side of a building.

Julian, a drug-smuggler thriving in Bangkok’s criminal underworld, sees his life get even more complicated when his mother compels him to find and kill whoever is responsible for his brother’s recent death.

Refn and Gosling obviously have a comfortable reparte with each other, a nice thing to have and something I hope continues for many more films. ONLY GOD FORGIVES also stars Kristin Scott Thomas and will premiere at this year’s Cannes Film Festival. It premieres in theaters stateside on July 19, 2013.
