Samaritan trailer: Sylvester Stallone brings a retired superhero to life

Prime Video has unveiled the first trailer for Samaritan, an upcoming film that sees Sylvester Stallone bringing a retired superhero to life. With the help of Euphoria’s Javon Walton, Stallone’s character is convinced to get back into fighting crime for the greater good.

The film takes place in the fictional Granite City, which is the central hub for a lot of crime. Stallone plays Joe smith, a garbageman working in Granite City that spends his days retrieving precious items from trash bins and giving them new life. It’s a pleasant existence for Joe that is interrupted when he crosses paths with thirteen-year-old Sam (Walton). Sam is attacked by bullies one day, and Joe intervenes by pushing them away with what looks like superhuman strength. After this encounter, Sam is convinced that Joe is Samaritan, a superhero everyone believes died in a fire 25 years ago.

Directed by Julius Avery from a screenplay by Bragi F. Schut, the film is described as a “dark, new take on superhero movies.” The story was previously adapted into the Mythos Comics graphic novels by Schut, Marc Olivent, and Renzo Podesta.

The film was delayed several times and was scheduled to be released theatrically on November 20, 2020, December 11, 2020, and June 4, 2021. After these schedule changes, it was announced that the film would be released on August 26, 2022, via Prime Video.
