ComingSoon got word that Doug Jones, who played superhero freak Abe Sapien in HELLBOY has just signed on star in another Guillermo del Toro flick, PAN’S LABYRINTH.
The sequel to del Toro’s acclaimed THE DEVIL’S BACKBONE, LABYRINTH goes a little something like this:
The year is 1944, and a small family moves into an old house in Spain after the rise of Fascism. Their 12-year-old daughter discovers a ruined labyrinth beside their old home and meets the guardian of the labyrinth … the god Pan.
Jones is set to play Pan himself, with a script by del Toro. “My script is very much in the mold of ‘Cronos’ and ‘The Devil’s Backbone’, and will be done without any commercial aspirations. It’s going to be very scary, set against the fascist regime of Spain.”
Pretty much anything del Toro directs I’m a fan of, and this one is looking to be no different. Ghosts are cool, fascism is scary, and hell- there’s no commercial aspirations! How dope is that? Filming is set to begin this July.
And in somewhat related news, Jones’ next flick DOOM, which was originally set to be released August 5th has now been bumped back to October 21st- pulling an opposite move along the likes of Universal’s LAND OF THE DEAD, which was bumped up from an October release to a summer release.
