The first SAW will be returning to theaters this Halloween to celebrate its 10th anniversary, however we haven't heard much recently about an eighth installment in the horror franchise. Last we knew, Lionsgate was developing another SAW movie, but that was back in November of last year, and there hasn't been any news since on the project.

In an interview with Shock Till You Drop, SAW producers Mark Burg and Oren Koules said they are planning on doing another movie, and creators James Wan and Leigh Whannell will also be back for the next SAW.

Oren Koules: James and Leigh…when Saw came out they were so afraid of being ‘the Saw guys’, and they were trying to make their own mark. Now that they’ve made their own mark, they’re very comfortable to come back. We’re getting there. James and Leigh are absolutely going to put their mark on it.

Koules goes on to say one of the reasons why they are interested in doing a new SAW is because of the original films' upcoming re-release, and their plan is to show off the movie at the 2016 Comic-Con, which means it will likely hit theaters a few months later around Halloween.

It’s one of the reasons we agreed to do this again…We kind of wanted to build it up. Our goal is to go to Comic-Con, not next summer but the summer after [2016] with our heads up saying, ‘Here we go.’ James and Leigh are comfortable with the success they’ve had. And it’s time. James is in post on his movie. Leigh’s on post on [Insidious Chapter 3]. Everyone has time and it’s time.

James Wan directed the first SAW, but not the sequels, and while Wan says he is thinking about helming the next SAW chapter, he's not sure if he'll end up behind the camera for the film.

I’ve entertained the idea. But that’s more of a fantasy, I think. It’s a story Leigh and I really like and…who knows?

Although I really enjoyed the first SAW, the sequels just didn't do anything for me. I know there are some who love the franchise, but I'm just not interested in seeing a new SAW flick, and I'm sure I'm not the only one who is kind of done with the series. I'll probably still check it out at some point, but it's not as if I'll be going into the movie with high expectations.

Are you excited there's going to be a new SAW?
