Spain sure does put out some fantastic versions of horror. PAN’S LABYRINTH was brilliant and I just had the pleasure of viewing the creepy yet moving masterpiece, THE ORPHANAGE. Now, I’ve just learned of a new horror flick from Spain and think it’s worth knowing, especially after I checked out some of its freaky friggin’ pics (like the ones above and below). The flick’s name is THE APPEARED or Aparecidos and although it’s not from Guillermo del Toro, the plot has some potential. Have a look:
Malena and Pablo, two brothers traveling on Argentina, discover a diary telling crimes commited 20 years ago. That night, a family is killed following the history of the diary. Now Malena and Pablo need to discover what is real and what isn’t…
It’s a simple enough description, but considering the other genre flicks from Spain, I’m guessing there’s something much deeper to the story. The pics really are different and disturbing. You can check out the whole lot here. Plus, I highly recommend you view THE APPEARED’s fast-paced, frightening teaser trailer while there. It was written and directed by Paco Cabezas and stars Ruth Díaz and Javier Pereira. For now, no U.S. release date has appeared, but I’ll keep you posted.
