Sometimes you hear something so bizarre that you just don’t know how to react. In an interview with IGN FilmForce, Ridley Scott told them that he was never even asked to do the second ALIEN. WTF???? I mean, granted the second film has a completely different feel, and Cameron did a masterful job on the follow up, but to not even ask the original director to return? Like I said, bizarre.
Anyway, this is Scott on the possbility of returning for ALIEN 5, which is the only way Sigourney Weaver has said she’d do it:
“It’s all to do with the material. If the script is great, of course.”
So there you have it! Now if this ever gets off the ground, I think they also need to get HR Giger to come back in and retool the original creature design. At this point we’ve seen the damn thing so much that it’s lost a lot of its creepiness, and a few tweaks might just send the scare o’meter right back to the vaunted heights of the original.
