Ghostface is back, and this time, they’re taking their rampage to New York City. Scream VI is now playing in theaters, and it looks to be another strong installment of the long-running franchise. The sequel took in $5.7 million in Thursday night previews and is expected to open to $35-40 million, which would be a franchise high.

Following the latest Ghostface killings, Scream VI finds the four survivors leaving Woodsboro behind and starting a fresh chapter. Melissa Barrera returns as Sam Carpenter alongside Jenna Ortega as Tara Carpenter, Jasmin Savoy Brown as Mindy Meeks-Martin, Mason Gooding as Chad Meeks-Martin, and Courteney Cox as Gale Weathers. Hayden Panettiere also returns as Kirby Reed, returning after her last appearance in Scream 4. New additions to the sequel include Jack Champion, Henry Czerny, Liana Liberato, Dermot Mulroney, Devyn Nekoda, Tony Revolori, Josh Segarra, and Samara Weaving. Scream directors Matt Bettinelli-Olpin & Tyler Gillett return to helm the sequel from a script written by James Vanderbilt & Guy Busick.

Our own JimmyO was certainly a fan of Scream VI, even calling it the best sequel since Scream 2. “Scream VI is a massive surprise. It’s tense, scary, and fun, and I was happy to engage with the new players involved,” JimmyO wrote in his review. “The filmmakers impressively take over where Kevin Williamson and the late, great Wes Craven finished off. It’s a pleasure to witness the meta-slasher series thrive once again. You will thoroughly enjoy the newest installment if you are a Scream fan. While the kills aren’t over the top per se, you’ll see a Ghostface get all sorts of brutal. Perhaps the most brutal in the series. Seriously, this time around, they take STAB to a whole new level. And yes, New York, New York is an excellent replacement for the quaint yet deadly Woodsboro. Scream VI is a bloody good delight.” You can check out the rest of JimmyO’s review right here.

Scream VI is currently sitting at 77% on Rotten Tomatoes, which places it just a hair above the last movie’s 76%. Let us know what you thought of Scream VI in the comments below!
