Scream(s) confirmed!

Back in February Ammon gave us all the good(?) news that SCREAM writer Kevin Williamson had been tapped by The Weinstein Company to pen not only a SCREAM 4 but a whole new trilogy!

At least that was the word on the street until today. You see… today Entertainment Weekly confirmed this little tidbit via their Hollywood Insider Blog. But here’s the curveball… EW are calling this whole ordeal a ‘reboot/remake!’ Before we all get into a frenzy about the idea of SCREAM being remade (even though we’ve all joked about it…) I’m willing to bet EW just got their terminology mixed up. Especially considering they also confirmed that Williamson has approached a couple of SCREAM veterans to return! It’s interesting to note they also peg Williamson as ‘writer-director.’

Now why in the world would a studio be looking to remake a franchise with the same actors? They wouldn’t. I think the idea they’re trying to go for is that in SCREAM 4 the characters we’re familiar with will ‘pass the torch’ to a new group of characters. Call me crazy but I’m not digging that… Am I the only one that’d be perfectly fine with Sidney, Dewey, and Gale battling good ol’ Ghostface for another three movies?? Alright… maybe I am but I loved the SCREAM trilogy! That’s right… all three of them! I actually credit SCREAM 2 for birthing my love for the genre… but don’t ask me why.

You’re probably asking yourselves what actors have officially been approached to return. It shouldn’t come as a surprise actually: David Arquette and Courtney Cox-Arquette. It’s been previously rumored that the duo have been approached but now we have confirmation from Williamson via EW! Nice. The only thing that presents a problem for the duo to return would be Cox-Arquette’s upcoming sitcom COUGAR TOWN. Wait… COUGAR TOWN? Who cares about SCREAM 4!

The question now is will Neve Campbell and Wes Craven be back? Them are the big questions folks! Keep it here as we await more wacky words on what’s going on with this SCREAM saga!
