There’s a few genre projects out there about priests battling baddies… but this one I haven’t really taken note of until right now. I’m talking about PRIEST, the Sony Screen Gems project based on the PRIEST graphic novels from TokyoPop.
There’s been rumblings about PRIEST for a while now, from Gerard Butler starring in the film to Andrew Douglas helming the project. Well that’s all been thrown right out the window! What we do have today is a release date! It appears that the flick is looking at an August 13, 2010 release date with the already announced Scott Stewart directing. Groovy. August 13 of course falls on a Friday, which would make this potentially awesome genre flick fall on Friday the 13th. Unfortunately that would also pit it against the rumored FRIDAY THE 13TH 2 if Platinum Dunes are actually looking at releasing they’re sequel on the infamous day. If this is the case I’ve got a feeling Sony will shuffle PRIEST around a little bit…
The graphic novel follows a member of the clergy who decides to go all vigilante and leave the church to battle some vampires. Awesome. From the look of the comic this one looks like it can be pretty badass… let’s hope Stewart brings the goods! It may be a while before we hear any other updates on PRIEST, but as always, we’ll keep you updated. For more info on the PRIEST graphic novel you can head right over here.
Priests don’t have it so bad…
