See Hammer’s Wood

The return of Hammer Films making theatrically released movies once again has many people rejoicing in the streets… or simply stoked that all those years of schlocky British vampires, low-budgets, and cheesy special effects weren’t for nothing. Today we have the first look at Hammer’s THE WAKE WOOD, and while I don’t see any vampires, I do see something that feels quite bizarre, indeed.

Directed by David Keating and starring Aidan Gillen, Eva Birthistle, and Timothy Spall, THE WAKE WOOD goes a little something like this: The parents of a girl who was killed by a savage dog are granted the opportunity to spend three days with their deceased daughter.

Not murdered by a serial killer, or an accidental falling off a cliff–no. It’s death by savage dog. Only in a Hammer film… nice to have ya back to theaters, ya big lug! If you head on over to the film’s OFFICIAL WEBSITE, you can check out the new image (same as the one above), and read up on how THE WAKE WOOD came to be Hammer’s first theatrically released film of the 21st century. It’s quite the story, really.

No release date has been announced yet, but as it’s still filming, I’d say we’re looking at sometime in 2010… but hey, that’s just a guess! Could be sooner than that! Enjoy the new pic, and prepare yourself for…. THE WAKE WOOD!!!
