See Roger Corman and a hungry “gator” at work in this Corman’s World clip

We just the other day brought the news that A&E had purchased the documentary CORMAN’S WORLD: EXPLOITS OF A HOLLYWOOD REBEL, about everyone’s favorite B-movie schlockmaster Roger Corman. I was personally already quite excited about the flick when the news hit, but now I’m chomping at the bit to get a look at it, considering the fun little clip that’s just been released by MTV.

In it, you watch the master at work, as he oversees a typical scene in the Corman canon: a hot young girl being devoured by a monster – or in this case, a very nasty gator. Naturally, it’s not a real gator, and the effect is very special indeed.

Blue jeans, sock-hops and drive-in movies: the Fifties were America’s age of innocence. But stalking the depths of its post-nuclear bliss, mass paranoia became fuel for Joseph McCarthy’s brand of Red Scare terror propaganda. Bomb shelters were a deluxe feature in every American home, government-sponsored educational reels promised an imminent nuclear threat from across the Atlantic, and Hollywood, Babylon of the western world, hung on the brink of collapse. It was here, in the last-ditch machinations of a dying juggernaut, that a mild-mannered, civil engineer’s son would become the most influential force in modern moviemaking. Corman’s World tracks the triumphant rise of Hollywood’s most prolific writer-director-producer, the true godfather of independent filmmaking.

CORMAN’S WORLD has its world premiere at Sundance tonight, and has four more screenings throughout the week. No date for its A&E airing has been announced as of yet.
