Sesame Street feature film on the way

Last Updated on July 31, 2021

Who doesn't remember growing up with SESAME STREET? I know it helped me as a kid as I began learning to spell and count (ah, ah, ah). Now it seems a new feature film is on its way from Warner Bros. According to Deadline, they've even tapped scribes David Guion & Michael Handelman (NIGHT AT THE MUSEUM: SECRET OF THE TOMB and DINNER WITH SCHMUCKS) to write the script. Shawn Levy, who directed the NIGHT AT THE MUSEUM films (then gained some street cred working on STRANGER THINGS) will be producing.

Now, this isn't the first time SESAME STREET was made into a film, as that honor goes to FOLLOW THAT BIRD starring Big Bird in 1985 (which still makes me cry). Let's hope this new film can live up to that, or even expand upon it. Unfortunately, "from the writers of NIGHT AT THE MUSEUM and DINNER WITH SCHMUCKS" doesn't inspire a lot of confidence. However, let's hope they can prove everyone wrong!

No release date has been set, but the assumption is it should be out sometime next year.
