Right on the heels of the news that he would be directing UNCHARTED, Sony has announced another project for Seth Gordon. While UNCHARTED is his primary project, Gordon will follow that video game adaptation with the movie QUEEN OF HEARTS.

QUEEN OF HEARTS is a Black List screenplay by first time writer Stephanie Shannon. It will be produced by Sony and OddLot Entertainment. While UNCHARTED seemed unlike Gordon’s previous comedic work on films like IDENTITY THIEF and HORRIBLE BOSSES, QUEEN OF HEARTS will be yet another genre for the in demand filmmaker.

The script is about how a passionate affair that leaves author Lewis Carroll brokenhearted prompts him to craft Alice In Wonderland.

Reading that description immediately reminded me of the Anthony Hopkins and Debra Winger film SHADOWLANDS. That film, directed by Sir Richard Attenborough, told the behind the scenes story of CHRONICLES OF NARNIA author C.S. Lewis. I have a feeling that QUEEN OF HEARTS will likely stray closer to something like FINDING NEVERLAND rather than that high drama film, but the romantic aspect of the story will be unique for Seth Gordon.

You usually do not hear about a director lining up confirmed projects one day apart like this, but it goes to show that studios are locking in their projects further and further in advance. QUEEN OF HEARTS has not set any cast or production dates but do not expect it to budge much until UNCHARTED is complete.
