Updated: Seth Rogen and Zac Efron will reunite for Neighbors 2 in 2016

Last Updated on August 2, 2021

Update: Plot synopsis revealed for the sequel.

After grossing obver $250 million worldwide on an $18 million budget, NEIGHBORS is set to get a sequel next summer. Universal had previously slotted an untitled R-rated comedy for May 2016 and we now know it will be the follow up to the college-set raunchy comedy.

Deadline says NEIGHBORS 2 will see the return of Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg as writers and producers alongside director Nicholas Stoller. Andrew Jay Cohen and Brendan O’Brien, who wrote the first film, will executive produce the new film. Rose Byrne will return as well. Here’s the plot synopsis:

This time a sorority moves in next door to the couple, who enlist their former nemeses from the fraternity to help battle the raucous sisters.

NEIGHBORS was definitely a fun movie but paled in comparison to Rogen’s recent work on THIS IS THE END and THE INTERVIEW. The movie ended in a pretty tidy conclusion so while a sequel is not needed it could still be possible. Here’s hoping it is not just a cash grab retread of the first movie and brings something special to screens.

NEIGHBORS 2 will hit theaters on May 13, 2016.
