Seth Rogen, Steven Spielberg, casting, casting news

Steven Spielberg's next feature film is a project that is loosely based on the director's childhood growing up in Arizona and his latest casting choice makes it look like Spielberg had some seriously funny people in his corner. According to "Deadline", Seth Rogen has been tapped to play Spielberg's favorite uncle growing up in the still-untitled project from Amblin Entertainment.

The project was first announced when Michelle Williams came on board to play a role that is inspired by Spielberg's mother. The film is also significant because this is the first time since 2001's A.I.: Artificial Intelligence that Spielberg will be involved in screenwriting duties. He will co-write the script with Tony Kushner, who is no stranger to writing for Mr. Spielberg. The movie is said to be very personal for the director and this is why he's involved with the writing process. Shooting is expected to start during the summer and the plan is for the film to see a release sometime in 2022.

There is a bit of buzz behind this project because any roles that are cast will be of family and friends that inspired Spielberg as he was growing up. The casting process has been kept very secretive and now that the adult roles are appearing to come together, the casting will now shift to other roles that include children at multiple age levels. The real casting surprise will be who lands the part that is inspired by a young Steven Spielberg. That role will certainly be a big get for any actor that secures that part.

Seth Rogen has been a very busy man as of late across various endeavors. On top of being a major film star, Rogen and his Point Greg partner Evan Goldberg are behind the Amazon series The Boys, which also announced a spinoff that is in development. They also recently launched Houseplant in the U.S. which is a cannabis and housewares company. Rogen is also set to publish his first book on May 11, 2021, called "Yearbook", which is a collection of short stories.
