Sex and the City stars to earn $1 million per episode for HBO Max revival

The news that Sex and the City was officially being revived at HBO Max sent fans into a tizzy yesterday & this latest news is bound to send them right over the edge. How much do you think it took Sarah Jessica Parker, Cynthia Nixon, & Kristin Davis to return? Hint: It wasn't cheap.

According to a report from "Variety", the Sex and the City trio is earning $1 million per episode for the ten-episode limited series. All three are set to star in the show as well as serve as executive producers. The salary may seem pretty steep but for a high-profile project like this, it's pretty normal. Commanding north of $1 million per episode has become the new upper tier of television star salaries in recent years. A-listers like Nicole Kidman, Jeff Bridges, Sir Patrick Stewart, Reese Witherspoon, and Kerry Washington are among the stars who have recently landed such paydays for their roles in major projects on platforms like Netflix, Hulu, Amazon, and other streamers.

It's also great to see women in the industry commanding a paycheck like this considering the issue of pay disparity is still very much alive. Serving as executive producers likely helped out a lot here & they also know that the project is in demand and they simply know their worth. The original Sex and the City is still very popular in reruns & the series spawned two films that were successful. The 2008 feature earned over $418 million worldwide on a reported $65 million budget and even the widely-panned Sex and the City 2 earned over $290 million globally with a reported $100 million budget. Some IP just continues to draw in fans & Sex and the City is one of them.

The revival, which is titled And Just Like That…, will follow Carrie Bradshaw (Parker), Charlotte York (Davis), and Miranda Hobbes (Nixon) as they navigate love and friendship in their 50s. The half-hour series is set to begin production in New York City in late spring. Kim Cattrall, who played Samantha Jones in the original series, is not returning for the revival.
