Shia still wants Y

Despite recent comments to the contrary, Shia LaBeouf is apparently still keen on being the man beneath the monkey for an adaptation of Brian K. Vaughan’s Vertigo comic Y: THE LAST MAN. Just not right away.

As Kid Beef tells Collider, “It’s not as big as a variation for me. I want to do something that’s foreign.” He feels that the character is a bit too Witwicky in tone, but says it’s his favorite comic and still hopes to hit it a year or two down the line.

The project would reunite him with his DISTURBIA and EAGLE EYE director DJ Caruso (“I wouldn’t want to make the movie with anybody else because he loves it like I do,” he says), but the script is still in the works (condensing the 60 issue comic series, even to the first of a planned movie trilogy, is probably a challenge) and schedules are currently jammed.

Y: THE LAST MAN follows the journey of wisecracking amateur magician Yorick, the only guy left on the planet (plus his simian sidekick) after a plague wipes out the entire male gender – but he quickly discovers that a world of women is not quite paradise.
