Smith’s Red is next

Well, with today being Election Day and all, I guess it’s kind of fitting that we post an article with some minor political undertones. And even though we’ve talked up Kevin Smith’s RED STATE many a time, but to little avail, I’m still pulling for the flick. No doubt, Mr. Smith is currently doing the same, recently stating that it will be his next movie. All he has to do is finally find someone to finance it. However, that seems to be the one friggin’ problem that refuses to go away. Why is this so? Answer us, Kevin!

“Honestly, it’s been tough finding financing, and that was before the economic collapse in the last two or three weeks,” Smith says. “It’s just not a very commercial flick, and I understand why people are like, ‘Do you have another comedy? Because I’ll do that.’ So I don’t know.”

But it’s still horror, right? A Kevin Smith Horror Film sounds very commercial to me. Am I wrong? Who knows, but apparently (and thankfully) Smith is still not giving up. After discussing all the studios’ negative reactions toward RED STATE, he went on to say,

“[But] for some reason, that just makes me want to do it more. It makes me feel like I’m on the right track, if people are like, ‘I don’t know if I want to be involved in this.’ It makes you feel like it’s worth making.”

I couldn’t agree more. And to solidify Mr. Smith’s resolve to make STATE happen, check out his response when asked about the space comedy he was reportedly moving on to:

“Oh, I’m doing RED STATE next.”

Stick to your guns, Kevin. By the way, here’s the flick’s plot: While traversing through Middle America, four unsuspecting teenagers encounter a Fred Phelps-esque religious fundamentalist who begins stalking them.
