Sosie Bacon (Charlie Says), the daughter of Kevin Bacon and Kyra Sedgwick, has signed on for her first lead role in a studio movie. Variety reports that she is set to star in writer/director Parker Finn’s horror film Something’s Wrong with Rose, which begins filming in New Jersey this month. Joining Bacon in the cast are, according to The Hollywood Reporter, Kal Penn (the Harold & Kumar movies), Kyle Gallner (Red State), Jessie T. Usher (The Boys), Rob Morgan (Mudbound), Judy Reyes (Scrubs), Caitlin Stasey (Neighbours), and Gillian Zinser (90210).

Coming our way from Paramount Players, Something’s Wrong with Rose is a based on Parker’s short film Laura Hasn’t Slept, which won the Special Jury Recognition Prize in SXSW’s Midnight Short category. I was going to joke that I guess Laura got through her problem and passed it over to Rose, but that may not just be a joke, that might be accurate. Caitlin Stasey was also in Laura Hasn’t Slept, playing the title character, so there’s a chance she’s reprising the role of Laura in the feature film. We’ll have to wait and see.

We do know for sure that Bacon will be playing

a psychiatrist who, after a bizarre and traumatic event involving a patient, begins to experience terrifying occurrences that only she can see, and grows increasingly convinced that she’s being pursued by a malevolent supernatural force.

Something’s Wrong with Rose is being produced by Temple Hill, with Nathan Samdahl and Natalia Maymi overseeing the project for Paramount Players.

Stasey’s co-star in Laura Hasn’t Slept was Lew Temple, a genre regular I would love to see turn up in Something’s Wrong with Rose as well. I haven’t seen the short film, but the feature expansion sounds like it could be interesting. We’ll be keeping an eye on this one as it moves forward.
