Sony Loves Ghost

In news that should surprise no one after the box office success of THE GRUDGE and BOOGEYMAN, Sony has signed a two-picture distribution deal with Sam Raimi’s Ghost House Pictures. The deal covers the release of THE GRUDGE 2 (no word yet on Sarah Michelle Gellar’s involvement) and SCARECROW, the English language debut of the Pang Bros.

Since it appears that Ghost House Pictures is successfully carving itself out as a sure-fire money maker with medium budget, mostly neutered horror offerings, let’s hope they take all that money and use it to also pursue fresh genre voices. Maybe even go out on the occasional limb with an original, R-rated project that does more than create a promising trailer. Surely they’ve got the juice to do that every fourth or fifth film right? Right?
