Sony Pictures Classics has announced they've acquired the North American rights to the previously untitled new Woody Allen movie IRRATIONAL MAN. The upcoming film will star Joaquin Phoenix, Allen's MAGIC IN THE MOONLIGHT actress Emma Stone, Parker Posey and IF I STAY's Jamie Blackley, and although no official plot details have been released, the rumor is IRRATIONAL MAN is "about a University professor (Phoenix), his student (Stone) and their entanglement that may turn deadly."

Woody Allen on his new movie going to Sony Pictures Classics:

Sony Classics and I have a good working relationship. I like the way they handle my movies…very special, very classy and I always hope my films live up to their expectations.

The studio on picking up IRRATIONAL MAN:

Woody Allen's new movie IRRATIONAL MAN, his latest annual gift to moviegoers everywhere, is as fresh and winning as ever.

But will it be as fresh and winning as MAGIC IN THE MOONLIGHT? Yes, I'm being sarcastic, however I'm always interested in checking out a new film from Allen (who is also working on a television series for Amazon), even if I do end up being disappointed by it, like his last one. A release date hasn't been announced yet for IRRATIONAL MAN, but since the movie is in post-production (according to IMDB), it could potentially be released at some point this year.
