Sony sets release dates for Dark Tower, Jumanji reboot, and Bad Boys 3 and 4

Sony has finally settled down their affairs after the email hacking debacle last year and are now on a path towards creating multiple franchises and big film projects. With several films already set to bow over the next year and planned films for the next couple, Sony has officially set release dates for sixteen films between 2016 and 2019. A couple of changes to note are the new release dates for Antoine Fuqua‘s THE MAGNIFICENT SEVEN and GHOSTBUSTERS. The all-star western that features Denzel Washington, Chris Pratt, Ethan Hawke, and many others has moved from 2017 to the new release date of September 23, 2016. We also now have GHOSTBUSTERS shifting next summer to the new date of July 15, 2016.

Where things really get interesting are the official dates for the adaptation of Stephen King‘s THE DARK TOWER. The first film in what is anticipated to be a massive franchise is set to bow January 13, 2017. For fans following the development hell of the film based on the fantasy novels, having a release date is the closest we have ever been to actually seeing the movie come to reality. There have been no stars set for any roles in the film but with production likely to begin early next year, stay tuned for announcements in the coming months.

Along with the return of UNDERWORLD in October 2016 and RESIDENT EVIL in January 2017, Sony has set the release of the JUMANJI reboot for Christmas Day 2016. It is interesting they aren’t making it a sequel to the Robin Williams film but I am sure there is a reason for that.

The other big news is not only are we getting a third BAD BOYS movie but also a fourth film! With Joe Carnahan in talks to write and potentially direct the third film, this instills confidence in the studio signing WIll Smith and Martin Lawrence to return to their roles from the first two Michael Bay directed films. Sony would not be so hasty in setting two release dates (BAD BOYS 3 on February 17, 2017 and BAD BOYS 4 on July 3, 2019) if they couldn’t get both stars back.

Check out the full list of new dates from Sony below and get excited for these to hit theaters over the next four years.
