Sorvino, Culkin, and more join Mary Harron’s Quibi series Emma

Last Updated on July 30, 2021

Earlier this month, we shared the news that AMERICAN PSYCHO director Mary Harron will be at the helm of a horror series called Emma that's being made for the upcoming streaming service Quibi.

AnnaSophia Robb will be starring in the show, which follows

the dark journey of a young woman down on her luck and pregnant under mysterious circumstances. She must deal with the increasingly disturbing effects of her pregnancy, and the potential conspiracy surrounding it.

Since that announcement, four actors have joined Robb in the cast. Taking on supporting roles are Mira Sorvino and Rory Culkin. Recurring roles have gone to Hannah Murray and Michael Gaston.

Oscar winner Sorvino's previous horror work includes Guillermo del Toro's MIMIC and this year's LOOK AWAY. Genre fans might have seen Culkin in SIGNS, SCREAM 4, BULLET HEAD, LORDS OF CHAOS, or Castle Rock. Game of Thrones alum Murray recently worked with Harron on the Manson Family movie CHARLIE SAYS. Gaston is a prolific character actor with many TV credits to his name, including multiple episodes of The Man in the High Castle, The Leftovers, and Jericho.

Set to launch in April of 2020, Quibi gets its name from the fact that it will offer "quick bites" of entertainment. Intended to be watched on your smart phone while you're on the go, episodes of Quibi shows will be in the range of 10 minutes or less. We'll have to wait and see if this idea will catch on, but the streaming service does have the support of filmmakers like Sam Raimi, Steven Spielberg, Guillermo del Toro, and Alexandre Aja. They're all developing horror shows for the service.

Written by Ben Ketai (THE STRANGERS: PREY AT NIGHT), Emma is being produced by Dark Castle Entertainment and Propagate. Platinum Dunes is executive producing with Alex Mace and Hal Sadoff of Dark Castle and Propagate's Howard Owens, Greg Lipstone, and Rodney Ferrell.
