Todd McFaralane teases possible “Spawn Cinematic Universe”

Last Updated on August 5, 2021

Look, I'm probably one of the few people still super jazzed about an upcoming R-rated reboot of Todd McFarlane's seminal Spawn comic book series starring Jamie Foxx (though I'm still concerned about Todd McFarlane's lack of directorial experience). And, in a recent interview with Bleeding Cool, McFarlane said not only is he interested in making the film the way he wants to, but he's also considering spawning (sorry) an entire "Spawn Cinematic Universe".

Here's the pertinent quote:

I’ve been having this conversation with people inside and outside the comic industryI’ve been warming up my Hollywood agents to itThe big question is do we still do Spawn The Movie or do we offer something bigger than that? Because otherwise the only other option is you take your five best characters and you sell them to five different peopleAnd they do five individual things and never the twain shall meet. Wouldn’t it be better if one person, if one group came and said, ‘hey you know, that’s interesting talk to us, and oh, by the way, Spawn at least right now is at the epicentre at that so we’ve we’re getting a lot of value just for that one character, talk to us about all the others.

Spawn is still in active development at Blumhouse, with the aforementioned Foxx in the lead as the titular Al Simmons/Spawn, and Jeremy Renner as sharpshooter cop Maximilian "Twitch" Williams.

So what do you guys think? Looking forward to the new Spawn film? If so, also looking forward to a "Spawn Cinematic Universe"? Either way, sound off below!
