Spielberg on Lincoln

Lincoln goes Gettho

Spielberg FINALLY addressed his long-promised Lincoln bio, one that if/when it ever comes to be should feature Liam Neeson under the beard and top hat. Sadly though, he didn’t announce a production schedule for the film so the wait continues, but judging by his remarks he still very much intends to make that darn film sooner or later.

The mention came regarding another Lincoln-based film being mounted these days by Robert Redford, THE CONSPIRATORS which will see Robin Wright Penn and James McAvoy tackle a trial that followed the man’s assassination.

Spielberg expressed eagerness toward Redford’s project, telling Variety “We are very happy that Redford will be doing this Lincoln movie. It is completely different from what our Dreamworks Lincoln movie will be, and we believe that it will add to the commercial potential of our film. Lincoln as a subject is inexhaustible.” Notice the “our movie” reference in his comments? I take that as a definitive confirmation the project is far from abandoned. And I agree the two might make a great complement to one-another.
