Former “SPONGEBOB SQUAREPANTS” head writer Steven Banks will serve as head writer on A Squared Entertainment’s THE GOVERNATOR, the upcoming animated series starring Arnold Schwarzenegger in his first role since his political career.

I’m not sure why Arnie thought this would make such a great return, but at least Banks seems to know what he’s doing. He worked for six years on “SPONGEBOB,” which is pretty entertaining as far as kids shows go. He has also written for Nickelodeon’s “THE ADVENTURES OF JIMMY NEUTRON” and “CATDOG.”

Schwarzenegger has this to say: “Throughout my career, whether it has been in body building, movies or politics, my philosophy has always been to bring together the best specialized talent to create projects that people will love. Having Steven on board to head up the writing for ‘THE GOVERNATOR’ series is a fantastic next step.”

There’s no word on when we’ll see “THE GOVERNATOR” on TV, as an outlet has not yet been announced, but early plans say late-2012. Stan Lee Comics will publish a comic book offshoot, and a video game is being discussed. A 3D feature film is also being planned for a tentative early-2013 release.
