Star Trek: Lower Decks

There's been plenty of Star Trek goodness to come out of today's First Contact Day virtual event, such as the first teaser for the fourth season of Star Trek: Discovery as well as the reveal that one of the most iconic characters of Star Trek: The Next Generation will be returning for the second season of Star Trek: Picard, but we might has well round up the rest of the major Trek news to come out of the event.

A teaser trailer for the second season of Star Trek: Lower Decks reveals that the animated series will be returning to Paramount+ on August 12th, and not only that, but the series has also been renewed for a third season as well. You can check out the teaser below.

Please give us more of madman Captain Riker. Star Trek: Lower Decks isn't the only animated Star Trek series out there as it will soon be joined by Star Trek: Prodigy, an animated family series that revolves around six young aliens who take over an abandoned ship and head off on adventures. It was revealed last fall that Kate Mulgrew would be reprising her role of Captain Janeway in the series, but now we finally have a good look at how Janeway will appear in the series, plus a few more plot details.

Star Trek: Prodigy, Captain Janeway

It's been confirmed that Star Trek: Prodigy will take place in the Delta Quadrant in 2383, roughly five years after Voyager returned to the Alpha Quadrant. The Captain Janeway that will appear in Prodigy won't be the flesh-and-blood Janeway, but rather an Emergency Training Hologram who will teach the young characters about the ship, Starfleet, and exploring strange new worlds. "These six young outcasts know nothing about the ship they have commandeered," reads the official series description, "but over the course of their adventures together, they will each be introduced to Starfleet and the ideals it represents."
