Star Trek: Picard Season 2 teaser reveals John de Lancie’s return as Q

Happy First Contact Day, everybody! Paramount Plus has loaded its pulse canons with some particularly sweet ammo for today's event, including the reveal of a teaser trailer for the upcoming second season of Star Trek: Picard!

The teaser trailer was introduced by the man of the hour himself, Sir Patrick Stewart, who played Captain Jean-Luc Picard for seven seasons on Star Trek: The Next Generation.

In the trailer, Stewart's Picard talks about the complicated nature of time and how one person's actions can bear dire consequences for generations to come. As the camera pans around a softly lit room littered with Star Trek nicknacks, it eventually focuses on a playing card. Before long, the card begins to burn away, leaving nothing but the letter "Q" behind telling everyone, that John de Lancie's beloved villain Q will return in the new season.

“Time can turn even our most impulsive, our most ill-considered actions into history. what we do in a crisis often weighs upon us less heavily than what we wish we had done – what could have been,” Picard says. “Time offers so many opportunities but never second chances.”

John de Lancie, who first played the jovial antihero in Star Trek: The Next Generation and most recently on Star Trek: Lower Decks, confirmed today that he's reprising his iconic role for the live-action series. He joins Sir Patrick Stewart, Alison Pill, Isa Briones, Evan Evagora, Michelle Hurd, Santiago Cabrera, Jeri Ryan, Orla Brady, and Brent Spiner. The second season is already in production, so Trekkies won't have to wait long to discover the nature of Q's return.

Alex Kurtzman, Akiva Goldsman, Terry Matalas, Michael Chabon, Doug Aarniokoski, Dylan Massin, Patrick Stewart, Heather Kadin, Rod Roddenberry, and Trevor Roth will serve as executive producers for Star Trek: Picard Season 2. Meanwhile, Aaron Baiers and Kirsten Beyer will co-executive produce, with Akiva Goldsman and Terry Matalas acting as co-showrunners.
